We arrived at the pilot's lounge of Brackett Airport to find a smiling Dr. John Phillipp being assisted in his setup for the evening's presentation by PVPA President David Kerkhoff. The ever-present Al Childers looked on. "Well, I have to get to work," said David, "have a nice meeting." And off he went. It was still a little early and you know how people always run late to these things. The meeting was set to begin at the usual 7:30 pm and we had a few minutes still.
Along comes 7:30 and it's Dr. John, Al and your webmaster/photographer in attendance. We waited. Dr. John continued to smile. About 7:45, rather that folding his tent and going home, he said, "Let's get started."
The two of us were treated to a wonderful presentation about the 15 things that will disqualify you from obtaining your aviation medical certificate. It all began with a humorous look at a pilot none of us want to share airspace with trying to convince the AME why he shouldn't be denied his medical. In the short video we learned he was cursed with all 15 disqualifying conditions. Dr. John spent the remainder of the evening discussing how one might be able to qualify for a medical, in spite of possessing many of the disqualifying conditions. If you promise to show up next time, Dr. John has said he is willing to reschedule this valuable presentation. After all there were conflicting meetings and the PVPA meeting was a week early due to the Thanksgiving holiday. There won't be a meeting in December. See you all next year. |
